This impressive antique German champagne or wine cooler was crafted in Berlin by the silversmith firm D. Vollgold & Söhne between 1850 and 1886. Made of .800 fine silver, it features a bold repoussé design of sweeping acanthus leaves rising from the base, giving the vessel a sense of movement and elegance. The upper rim is richly decorated with a detailed band of overlapping laurel leaves and finished with a delicate beaded edge. The interior is lavishly gilt, providing both beauty and protection for use. Large enough to accommodate a magnum bottle, this cooler stands as a striking example of mid-19th century German silver craftsmanship.
