USA 40% Silver Clad Half Dollars are a distinctive part of America’s coinage history, produced by the United States Mint from 1965 through 1970. Following the Coinage Act of 1965, these coins replaced the 90% silver composition of earlier half dollars with a clad construction—an outer layer of 80% silver bonded to an inner core of 79% copper and 21% silver—resulting in an overall 40% silver content. Each coin contains approximately 0.1479 troy ounces of pure silver. All feature the Kennedy Half Dollar design, introduced in 1964 to honor President John F. Kennedy, with Gilroy Roberts’ profile of Kennedy on the obverse and Frank Gasparro’s Presidential Seal reverse. These coins circulated during a pivotal era in U.S. history and remain popular among collectors and silver investors for their historic significance and precious metal value. Offered in circulated condition, they make an affordable and accessible entry point into silver coin collecting.
